Lesa Bain, Vice President, North America for Lindblad Expeditions shared an amazing “Hit The Ground Running” offer this past week, called “Fresh Perspective, Fresh Year!”. It prompted the question, “Do we wake up on January 1 open to what might be possible, new horizons, ditching last year’s garbage?”
Maybe on New Year’s Eve you snuck early to bed wanting rest on the first day of the year. Or hearing the pop of a champagne bottle was your “Go To”. Perhaps you stayed up really late.
True confession…I lay on the couch resting, in my pj’s at 2:00 pm, reading, watching football and The Crown, asleep at 10:00 pm. My body was fatigued. This was the choice to be made, listening on the inside. Although inopportune in some ways and not so fun for my husband, Fresh Perspective comes from paying attention to your truth (and your body). New adventures happen by listening to that voice, the one who can be enthusiastic as much as unkind.

For a Fresh Year…
- Listen well, dear friends. Then take one step at a time, (listen for what’s next), day after day, towards your goals and dreams.
- Find quiet. Only with some quiet can we hear what’s going on! With so many distractions it can be challenging to find tranquil moments.
- For example, decide when to ignore your phone (if possible, when you first wake up).
- Throw on soothing “woowoo” music (my resistance is big to this idea; however the effect on my mood and body of calming sounds and music is huge);
- Take a walk, even if only around the block;
- Breathe…often, in and out, throughout the day to settle your mind. Find quiet.
- Do nothing sometimes, too. Not necessarily “nothing” – just not what you must do. Admittedly this isn’t easy. It’s hard to give yourself permission when wired for productivity. Grab a book or favorite magazine. Look out the window. Breathe and ask yourself- “what should I do right now in this moment?” for me, for my health, for happiness.
- Have fun. All of us need to get off the treadmill and change up the routine. Celebrating, enjoying friends, participating in activities that give you joy (skiing?) will create new energy and engender a fresh perspective.
- Rest. Next week I’m heading to a retreat facilitated by poet David Whyte and focused on experiencing a deep form of rest. “How will I turn off my busy business mind?”. It won’t be that hard lol! Ultimately we want to find calm amidst daily chaos, especially when not on retreat, in real life!

Fresh Perspective in 2024 is yours through adopting new self-care practices. What can be so hard when you feel so well? Wishing you an energy that sky-rockets you to the top of your game, your best self, actualizing those dreams and adventures that you deserve.
“Jobs fill your pocket, (and) adventures fill your soul.”* You can have both!
