Race, race, race! End-of-year schedules demand so much of us. We can’t jump off the treadmill for one moment.  The frenzy happens because we’re so responsible. We’re good people, doing our best. We want to “do it right”. We engage so much with the world, not wanting to “let anyone down.”[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][1] Therefore, there’s not a second to be found, ever, in our December day.

At least, that’s what we tell ourselves.

Quiet in morning conversation is possible! Here’s how:

Wake up ten minutes earlier (and go to bed ten minutes earlier, if not more.)

The stillness of morning, just after you’ve awoke “sets the stage” for being present. Matthew & Terces Engelhart, authors of Sacred Commerce, suggest “clearing and shifting”, a two question process, with someone dear or on your own.

As your eyes begin to open, with a warm cup of coffee or tea in hand or wrapped in a warm blanket on your favorite chair, and even staying in your pajamas for a few extra minutes, ask:

“What are you present to today”? Acknowledge whatever emotions or thoughts arise. No fixing allowed. Just observe, listen and repeat back exactly what you heard.

Then, shift to the wealth in life and, “create something new”. Ask a question such as:

  • What do you love about your plans for the day?”
  • “What do you have an abundance of?”
  • “What might inspire you today?”
  • “In what way might you make a difference today?”

Honor your answers and yourself. Fully experience the moment of being where you are, ahead of the inevitable whirlwind. Capturing the quiet, early, will remain with you for the rest of the day.

Make December a beautiful month filled with intentional intermittent stillness and conversation.
