Where To in 2019? This is a common question at the start of a New Year. It’s often easier to ask the question than answer, underlying our unease with fabricated resolutions. Luckily The World Is always Within Reach: we can refresh, rewrite, begin anew anytime.
The World is Within Reach when we live as travelers.We have twenty-four hours, three hundred and sixty five days a year to engage with life’s opportunities as a Local Being in community. For some of us who venture away we also have actual journeys to live as travelers, exploring new places and distant lands. Why separate the two? We can live as a traveler at home and away, enjoying the sights, interactions and experiences, choosing how we want to engage and “show up”.
- When we live as a traveler… we’re more present. We notice the sights, sounds and smells around us. Our senses are engaged. Mind, body and spirits are in sync.
- When we live as a traveler… we’re open to new experiences, out of our comfort zones, willing to try something for the first time, take a risk.
- When we live as a traveler… curiosity drives our awareness and actions. We ask questions. We seek knowledge. Learning is part of the daily experience.
- When we live as a traveler… we’re tolerant. Different cultures inspire versus scare us. It’s ok if someone doesn’t look like us. As “travelers” we expect and welcome differences.
Despite uncertainty in our lives we can pick a few “destinations” and outline steps to get there. Things might unfold differently and that’s ok too. Rarely does a trip go exactly as planned.
If you have a moment grab a pen and paper, set a timer for five minutes and answer the following question*: “If everything in my life starting from today meets or exceeds my most optimistic expectation, what will my life be like in five years?”* Ahead of January 1, spend some minutes over the next few days considering and writing about this question. There’s no right or wrong answer, only what feels true to you. If it feels comfortable, share you answers with a close friend or loved one. Verbalizing our dreams helps make them more concrete as well as starts the wheels turning. The universe will kindly answer!
