When crossing a street we hold tightly to the small hands of our children. We steadfastly want to protect them and bolster their sense of security.   Holding tightly is analogous to “standing firm” in conversations.  Our children are precious.  So are you!

Think about a time when you had to communicate something difficult or contentious.  You stayed resolute, in integrity with yourself, not to be swayed or perceived as weakly communicating. Sometimes even, you stood alone holding tightly to your values! Didn’t Abraham Lincoln say: “All through life, be sure to put your feet in the right place, and then stand firm.”1

Yet, standing firm means more than not yielding. Although we hold tightly to our values, and what we stand for, we also stand with humility.  We source our strength from a positive place, one of abundance and goodwill.

With solid ground beneath our feet we…

  • Quietly acknowledge that we don’t know everything.  Our picture is not complete.

With solid ground beneath our feet we…

  • Live with uncertainty.  While we might desire a specific outcome, we don’t know for sure if it can be achieved.

With solid ground beneath our feet we…

  • Stand firmly in the present, increasing awareness of any situation.

With solid ground beneath our feet we…

  • Embrace our whole selves and whatever arises from within or from those around us.

Solutions emerge when we stand firmly with humility and openness.  Feel the solid ground beneath your feet and rejoice!
