Growing up I remember one of my friend’s mom always saying “that everything was wonderful” and actually feeling that perhaps things weren’t as good as professed. “Wonderful” feels full of hyperbole.
Yet feeling inspired is within reach. How? When we recognize and trust the simple good in the universe. “Wonderfuls” might include listening to the wind in the trees, watching snow fall, looking at night stars, smelling food in the oven, watching children play, experiencing a good hug, laughing, lighting a candle, holding hands…What are the simple “Wonderfuls” on your list?
Recently my family and I participated in a food drive, packing boxes on Saturday and delivering on Sunday. The gift exchanges were lovely, arriving in the early morning, with recipients still in their PJ’s, greeting us warmly. We were reminded of the simple pleasure of having a daily meal and of the opportunity to give to others.
Create your own inventory of “simple good” this month. Need inspiration? Watch the movie, Elf, check out this corny but lovely Louis Armstrong’s YouTube video, “It’s A Wonderful World” or, bring some questions to the table:
- Who are your all-time favorite people in life? Why?
- What makes you smile?
- What would “doing nothing” look like?
Simple “Wonderful” experiences create delight and happiness, regardless of circumstances.
Wishing you simple “Wonderfuls” this month,
Amy
“The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.”
