If we observed ourselves often, we’d probably laugh about our obsessions, quirks and failed attempts at conversation. As someone who admires a quick laugh and feels almost relieved by an impromptu giggle, December is a time for adding extra humor into our lives! As everyone knows, laughter provides a release from stress and sorrow.
How might we find laughter amidst the cold weather?
Listen to the words. Strive for positivity in how we express ourselves. More favorable utterances will create space for merriment.
Listen to other people’s words, too. Some co-workers, friends, acquaintances are natural comedians if we’re paying attention.
Ask “have you heard any jokes lately?” Prepare a joke to share.
- Q: What breakfast cereal does Frosty the Snowman eat?[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][1]
- A: Snowflakes.
- Q: What do you call a bankrupt Santa?
- A: Saint Nickel-less.
- What does Santa like to do in the garden?
- Hoe, hoe, hoe!
Practice tongue twisters. When our family was struggling my father reverted to occasionally engaging us in childhood sequences such as “Big black bugs”, “Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore” or “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.” Here are a few for December:
- How many deer would a reindeer reign if a reindeer could reign deer?[2]
- Tiny Timmy trims the tall tree with tinsel.
- Santa’s sleigh slides on slick snow.
For those difficult conversations, reach for the “high road” and keep topics light. Look for something to laugh about- the burned batch of cookies, the ugly wrapping paper, the silly traffic jam, the messy snow drenching dress shoes- and smile.
Laugh your way through December and connect with humorous conversation!
